Emerald is a variety of the mineral beryl and one of the most precious stone of this class. The gemstone is mainly mined all around the world from countries in South America, Africa and Australia. The majority of emeralds are light to dark green, depending on the traces of chromium or vanadium impurities within the stone. Emerald is believed to attract wealth and protect travellers. The gemstone varies between 7.5-9/10 on the Mohs scale and is thought to be reasonably durable. Although Emerald is cable of scratching other gems and being scratched by other gems, so must be stored appropriately.
